Restoration Mazda 929 Group A

Vink Motorsport is restoring this unique Group A car with rotary engine. The Mazda was built in 1985 by Dutch race driver Hans van der Beek to compete in the famous Spa 24 hr. With support of Mazda the Netherlands, this private team developed this rare race car themselves and managed to get all self-made race parts homologated  by the FIA. In ’86, ’87, and ’88, the car competed, as planned, in the Spa 24 hr. The Mazda 929, also known as “Hiroshima Taxi”, was a familiar car on and around the Spa track, especially for its deafening sound.

After a big crash in 1988 the car was stored until 2016 when we collected it out of a barn in Belgium. Now we are in the middle of restoring this unique car back to its former glory.
